Jason Lief will be @ the Workshop on Monday, June 8 and Tuesday, June 9
Jason began teaching high school history and Bible in the fall of 1996 at a small Christian School (Faith Christian) in Bigelow, Minnesota. He went on to teach 9 years at Pella Christian High School, teaching Bible and history as well as coaching basketball and baseball. In the fall of 2006 Jason began teaching Theology and Youth Ministry at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa.
At the core of Jason's beliefs concerning Christian education is the recognition that teaching is not simply the transference of objective facts and information - it is the exploration of meaning and identity as we seek to understand the world in which we live. In this context the purpose of Christian education is to help young people claim their identity in Jesus Christ so they might come to see all of creation from the perspective of Christ's death and resurrection. There are many narratives at work in the lives of young people which attempt to shape their identity and way of seeing the world. The role of Christian education, and more specifically bilbical and theological education, is to help young people experience the bilblical God and hear the Word he speaks to us in Jesus Christ. As members of the Christian community we must help them claim this narrative... the biblical narrative... as their story.
Jason is married to his wife Tammy, and has three children Naomi (7), Christian (5), and Savannah (1). Since he has much more hair now then when his professional picture was taken... he sent the above picture - hiking in the mountains of Montana. At least the scenery is nice...
